Just weighed in at 155.4 (please don't judge my toes...they help with my balance, ha, ha), 1st morning of my yearly cleanse that I've been doing for over a decade. Started last night with a laxative tea and awakened to my every other morning salt water full body colonic cleanse. Oh the joy...I have a love/hate relationship with my yearly cleanse but I do it because I do notice the benefits. My body does process meats quicker if I do choose to partake in carnivorous activity and after going to the korean/chinese nutritionist and after losing over 15lbs last year on the cleanse, I've only gained 5lbs back in fluctuation which was the first time I've kept the majority of the weight off. I want to stress that this is a cleanse/detox, yes, it does help with temporary weight loss but if not followed up with a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle change then YOU WILL GAIN IT ALL BACK and maybe then some because of over compensation.
I always get the curious question of why? I then always ask why not? If you'd view your body as a machine, why wouldn't you clean it out at least once a year. Do you not change the oil in your car, flush it out for maximized performance, why not then for your body. It's only once a year or so and if you can consume goodies for 365 days out of the year, why not go without for 10-15 days? I'm living proof it's not going to kill you so do your research and find the best cleanse for your system, mental health and body and try it out. I chose the master cleanser years ago because after reading up on it, I realized I wouldn't feel fatigued, I'd get my nutrients and I wouldn't lose my muscle mass. I still work out and work but I must say you piss like a race horse, squat like a duck and your smell of foods and lack there of, gives you about a 3 mile radius...oh, do I smell bread baking???? Urghhhhhh!!!!!
Now I've gradually built up to 10-15 days but I'll tell you my first year was traumatic. I had never done a cleanse and by the 3rd day not only did I feel nauseous, I couldn't take the smell of the lemonade or get down the salt water, I didn't lose any weight but I did feel better. So the following year, I tried it again but because I thought I'd have the same reaction, I did some poor time planning and had to get off of it after 7 days with no problems because of a karate tournament I was participating in. The 3rd year I was able to get to 10 days (the last 3 days being the hardest) without any hinderance to my daily lifestyle except for stuffing my face! I've since moved on to 10-15 days pending on how my body feels and what is still coming out in 10 days, you'd be surprised on what your body holds even if you don't eat so you can imagine the toxins just roaming for no good reason. All in all, I do believe a detox/cleanse is necessary for your body to work at it's best, but I also believe not all cleanses work the same for each person. I had to change from lemons to limes and I usually skip the cayenne pepper because of my nutritional needs, so please be well informed before jumping into a detox program but try it, even if only for a day...it's better than not doing it!
